Results Coaching by The Advance Consultancy
Increasing Personal Contribution to deliver results
Coaching is often described as an inquiry. It encourages the coachee to challenge their own thinking and belief systems to create actions which will deliver their goals. Through coaching the client can better understand their needs, motivations and skills. This self awareness supports the client to develop sustainable change.
We had the opportunity to work with a CEO of a medical research company. He was initially sceptical of the value of coaching but had seen the positive impact on a colleague and had agreed to have two taster sessions. He is extremely personally ambitious and whilst his new role was a great appointment he very much saw it as a stepping stone to his next role. He was keen to demonstrate success through his performance as he had in previous roles and to this end, had set himself very challenging goals. One of the key challenges facing him in his new role was that he had inherited a very dysfunctional team, most of whom had been in post for a number of years. Their expertise was in science and there was a reluctance to accept that they had wider collective responsibility for driving the business forward.
Coaching allowed him to clarify his goals and also articulate a plan to move from the current state towards what he wanted to achieve. The coaching relationship allowed him to explore different ways of doing things in a very confidential environment.
So delighted was he in the benefits of coaching that he agreed to a six month coaching programme and his feedback was:
"I was a sceptic (of the value of coaching) but found our sessions challenging without being intrusive and they increased my motivation and
clarified how I would achieve my objectives - I'm now an advocate of coaching!"
